Terrance Malick meets Apocalypse Now meets Lord of the Flies in the searing, unpredictable thriller Monos.
Alejandro Landes’ second feature offers us a number of teenagers living in the mountains of Colombia. Child soldiers for “The Organization", they have a nurse held hostage and struggle with surviving physically and emotionally. The pacing is deliberate, the tension palpable, breathtaking cinematography keeps us engaged.
Themes of loyalty, power and classism, but also of compassion and sacrifice make Monos a standout film, not to be missed.
Monos is playing May 17 and May 20 as part of the 2019 Seattle International Film Festival.
